Many of you are just like me and have loved fashion from an early age. Even though I was a poor kid, I still loved to look at magazines and dress up my dollies when I was playing. Now that I am more matured, (maybe!) I realize that the sooner you start to think about a career in fashion the better chance you will have of making your dreams come true.

One thing you can do at any age is study the industry. You don’t have to own a computer to do this girls. Remember books? They are available for free in your local library and the history of fashion is well documented. Beyond books the library is full of magazine subscriptions to the major fashion rags. Should you have a computer at your disposal the sites that follow fashion are in the thousands. Find one that appeals to you and visit it often but remember to read the news not just look at the hot new looks. One day you will want to know the leaders in the fashion industry in the direction you want to go be it modeling, design or marketing.

When you are ready to make your future come true there are modeling schools you can attend. Don’t go with one of those that want you to pay for modeling lessons. When you have the right stuff to be a model the agencies will want you not your money so be cautious. Design schools are available in most major metropolitan areas and many offer scholarships for good students.

My advice is don’t just dream. Make a plan and set goals for yourself because not everyone who is successful in the fashion world got noticed when she was a gorgeous, long legged teenager. You got to make your own noise!

You can try the latest in fashion makeup on your face online to see if you like the look for you. This is terrific as you can save some dough from going out and buying the latest colors and giving it a go on your own. DailyMakeOver.com is the website and all you do is go pick a photo that has your color and go for it.

Do you have a models face? Now you can try the looks and see if you can pull it off in the privacy of your own PC! Ha-ha! They have different brands like MAC and others. It’s a lot of fun for a little diversion. You have to register to get the full effect but that only takes a few minutes.

iPhone applications that focus on the fashion world are a huge hit. You can find a ton of them that provide have been developed by different companies to help users to keep tabs on the shows and the upcoming fall and spring fashions. There are also some that help with creating your own fashionable look. There are too many to mention them all but Style.com has one that gets updates from their Style File blog. Lucky magazine has one that let you view the editor’s favorite items and gives you a link to purchase it online.

I like the one from Lookz Lite, it is a .99 cent application that gives you videos on how to’s for beauty. D&G Fashion Channel has a very robust one that gives you access to that latest couture, videos from fashion shows and a map to the closest D&G boutique! Nice, right! So check them out!

Alexander McQueen a product of the London fashion scene recently participated in Fashion Week Paris with his spring 2010 line. His influence was the aquatic and his clothing gave the impression of looking up through the water at sunlight with its interesting prints. I was not impressed by the hair styling which was done to imitate fins or something. However the patterns were interesting and new. The shoes were infinitely weird and funky so you got to love them.

Alexander has been a rock star in fashion for the past ten years as his company was bought up by the Gucci Group and now he is the Creative Director. His fashion design is heavily influenced by his British tailor roots and French cutting and the fine finishing of Italian design houses. Check him out!

Lindsay Lohan definitely lit up the latest fashion show by Emanuel Ungaro fashion house in Paris recently. She showed in a super short minis and also blazers over nothing but what God gave her. Oh and a couple of nipple pasties.

“It’s not good to show your nipples so they should be covered,” Lohan giggled, referring to the heart-shaped pasties with a wink toward her paparazzi pictures showing her nipple exposure. The joint design and styles were thigh length dresses in hot pink, peach and white. The look seemed destined for a beach party but is extremely trendy and cute in my opinion. They are going to predicate that you better have nice thighs so don’t forget to hit the health club.

October is a breast cancer awareness month. The fight against breast cancer has come a long way and many improvements in treatment have been made in recent years. This progress is due to the strong support of research from both individuals and corporations. I wondered how I could help and I came across an article by Lauren Taylor on Examiner.com that was jumbled but interesting. Apparently, teaming with corporations and charity is alive and well. There are many companies that offer a Breast Cancer Awareness fashion item and then share the proceeds with the Breast Cancer Research foundation.

I particularly love the Survivor bracelet available at Kitson boutique designed by Lisa Stewart. It’s pink of course and so chic that can be worn anywhere for a casual touch. She also pointed out a Disco Baby Breast Cancer Ribbon Boots that are wild and a lot of fun. The name alone takes two breathes to say.

Bottom line is there are some really nice products available to support the research so check it out and help if you can!

The corset has been one of the sexiest items in the closet since medieval times and at the Fashion Week in Milan Dolce & Gabbana paid tribute. Models decked in corsets of rose prints, denim, leopard spots and black lace mounted the stage in force. Gabbana who was back stage stated that the corset would be a must have for next spring and summer fashion. I love the figure enhancing lines of a corset but I cringe at the thought of layering it up and breathing! Corsets were considered very uncomfortable in all times and I have my doubts over a comeback outside of the boudoir!

Fiona Bruce is a presenter for the Antique Road Show and she has recently debuted or should I say re-debuted 1970s fashion. Her claim is that 30 years is long enough to constitute antique when it comes to clothing and who is to argue? The resurgence of trendy hippy ware and the pop art patterns has been going on for some time. So why not pull out your grandparent’s old trunk and start a new renascence of sorts. The clothing is bringing record prices and the British are leading the way once again with their version of the Road Show hosted by Fiona Bruce!

Personally, I can’t see myself in a lot of it especially since I am not terribly fond of wearing dresses but the minis with a pair of leggings definitely could find a way into my fashion eye. Fiona models a Pucci print that I can barely look at in this picture below but what do you think? Do you like it?
